Phoenix Park is a vibrant green space transformed from a once derelict 7.25-acre landfill site. Owned by Wigton Town Council, the park is leased to Free for All, a local registered charity that has successfully brought the area into community use.

The park is well used by the community and is particularly popular with dog walkers. The opening of the cycle path from West Road makes the park easily accessible from the west and provides a safe and direct link between communities and local schools in Wigton.

In the last few years, the park has seen some development with local volunteers creating a Bee Garden, sponsored by local firm, Futamura. Two wonderful flowerbeds have also been created at the entrance to the Longthwaite Road allotments, managed by one of our councillors and with donations of plants and flowers from residents.

Futamura also brings members of staff on volunteer days to help with seasonal jobs around the park.

A community orchard was planted in 2022 with help from Cumbria County Council’s Environment Fund, featuring pear, apple, quince along with other fruit trees.

An acer tree was planted in commemoration of Queen Elizabeth II’s Jubilee in Spring 2022. This is marked by a commemorative plaque.
